Best Skateboard for Beginners Complete Guide

Looking to buy your child his or her first skateboard this year?  Finding the best skateboard seems like an easy task, but there are a lot of considerations.  We’ll help you walk through the review process to help you get the best skateboard for beginners.

What is a complete board?

If you are asking this question it’s probably what you want.  A complete board is just that.  It comes complete with all of the parts right out of the box, or whatever packaging it’s shipped in.  This is the easiest way to start.  If you are new to skating this is the best way to go.  You don’t have to worry about forgetting an important part and making extra trips back to the skate shop for something like the bearings you forgot to get.

What size skateboard should you get?

This is a good question.  Skateboards are made in so many different sizes, shapes and even materials you would think it could make a big difference.  Really though, at a young age the size isn’t as important as you might think.  Sure, you need to get one your kid is comfortable with, but the standard size would probably work just fine.  This is generally about 8 inches wide and 32 inches long.  They make longer cruising boards and smaller retro plastics, but we’d recommend sticking with the standard to learn balance and some basic tricks.  Plus you’ll probably want to head over to the skate park and these will be best for learning.

What’s it going to cost me?

Some of the best skateboards for beginners are pretty inexpensive.  You can get a good quality complete board for $60 or less.  Here’s a few examples of some quality complete skateboards.  We’ve broken the pricing down into two sections – Complete Skateboards for Under $60 and Complete Skateboards for Under $80. Prices vary based on things like brand, and the components used to build the board.
